123d Catch Mac Download: Everything You Need to Know

Autodesk 123d Catch is becoming very popular in many countries such as the United States, China, and the UK. But this software only exists in the English version, which means that English speakers have to know English to use this program. For those who don't understand the language, you can also purchase the version in Mandarin Chinese or in Spanish. This product is very useful and effective when it comes to designing and building 3D models and structures.

When you purchase the software, you will need a couple of tools. These are a computer and an Internet connection. In addition to these two pieces, you will also need a CAD program such as Autodesk 123d Catch to use. There are actually a few different versions of the program so that you can choose the one that will work best for you. You can even choose to create your own custom version of the software, which you will be able to do if you are more experienced at CAD design.

I've just been notified by one of my 3D print forums that 123Design is being discontinued and will cease being supported come March 31st. Affected apps include 123D Make, 123D Catch, and 123D Sculpt. Some downloads for these plus Mac version downloads have already been taken offline, as will the online aspect of 123D Design - so you better download your files/apps while you still can! We have been advised to use Tinkercad, Fusion360 and ReMake in their place. Full announcement about the changes from Autodesk is here >

First, you'll find the link to 123D Catch Downloads on this page. The download and the installation is simple. You'll be giving Autodesk you email address since 123D Catch can process your model while you continue with your work and send an email when your model is ready.

The current version of the 123D Web application does not allow for optimization of the 3D File, such as deleting of excess information or filling holes. However, you can download the 123D Catch PC software to optimize the file for a print. (If you are using a mac, there are other programs that will recognize the models you download and allow you to edit them).

Since we added this software to our catalog in 2012, it has already reached 2,114 downloads, and last week it gained 0 downloads. This program is available for users with the operating system Mac OS X and previous versions, and you can get it in English. A premium membership will increase your access to premium content, give you access to an Instructables Pro membership, discounts on the purchase of a Makerbot, and many other benefits.

You can choose also choose Custom Materials, Object Size, Interactive Slice Direction and Modify Form to your needs. Most importantly, it includes animates Assembly Instructions that guide you step-by-step how to put together your creations. It's also integrated with Autodesk so that you can export your 2D build plans as EPS or PDF files. Finally, there's an extensive 123D Community from where you can download models and projects from users all around the world.

After Autodesk 123D, one of the most popular free 3D design suites announced that it will close up shop this month, many are left scrambling to find a new set of tools. This line of products was already discontinued as of last year, where the download links and account creation were removed from their website. As of April 1st however, any existing files saved to their platform are scheduled for deletion as well.

Second and third tries with more consistent lighting did not build a project. A fourth try using the iPad app and photos from the iPad worked well and quickly. After uploading the photos the 3D model was computed in a few minutes. I was able to view the project on the iPad app and on the website. I did not succeed at opening the project in the online window for editing. I downloaded the app for PC and ran it on Windows, hoping to be able to download and edit there. I did not figure out how to import a project into that application. I did succeed at opening the project online and downloading an stl file. Late note: a few days later I am now able to open the project and edit online. I installed the browser app (Firefox) that allows mesh editing. Looks promising.

Results shown in the above figures: 1. Photo used as input for the 123D catch project. 2. The downloaded stl mesh, as edited in MeshLab. I trimmed off the newspaper, but did not figure out how to make a new bottom plane. Not exactly watertight. 3. The stl file worked on the Makerbot anyway - I pushed the model into the build plate (in the GUI) and hit the build button. There was some confusion in the first two or three layers - the first layer was only about half there, but it did build. The model is lumpy, but it works. 4. Another cubist creation from 123D catch, after my recent editing. 2ff7e9595c
